Reddit has been exponentially growing in viewers since its outset. Yet it is one of the least spoken of and most underutilized ad platforms in the media community. Reddit is a social media site that allows people to join communities (or subreddits) specific to interests and needs. They share thoughts, fun facts, and news amongst each other both for educational and entertainment purposes. For example, there is a subreddit with 1.2 million people subscribed strictly dedicated to the Stranger Things television show. The list of subreddits goes into the tens of thousands with active users having climbed to 52 million per day. That makes Reddit the 6th most popular website in the United States.
Advertisers have been passing by Reddit for far too long. One reason may be because of its users being against ads and the trouble that comes with targeting. However, things have changed. Each subreddit is now a created space in which advertisers in any and all industries can thrive. Reddit has made changes to the Ads Management System allowing marketers to quickly, easily, and successfully market their business.
Automatic Ads
Arguably one of the most game changing updates to this system is the implementation of automatic ads creation. With this new tool, marketers can bulk upload headlines and media that the Reddit system combines to create multiple ad variations. Reddit Ads will then optimize delivery of each ad in order to find the combination of headline and asset that performs the best. This is revolutionary for testing ad creative and copy as well as optimizing those combinations to ensure maximum results!
Improved Community Search
Another extremely important update to the Reddit Ads Management System is improved community search. Marketers have turned away from the daunting task of advertising on Reddit because of the wide range of audiences. However, with community search, finding the right audience is extremely easy – which in turn will help all ads perform better. The improved update allows marketers to find targetable communities based on the relevance of each topic. When starting the targeting process, marketers can search for interest groups which target those who have recently interacted with specific topics. Topics to choose from include items such as art & design, gaming, travel, and much more. The targeting process is then narrowed down even more by selecting community audiences. A community audience targets members of a community/subreddit that Redditors have interacted with, both recently and repeatedly. These improvements in interest groups and community audiences allow marketers to be more successful, making the most of their budget.
Other Updates
Along with those two updates, Reddit has adjusted four other areas of their Ads Management System. They streamlined and simplified campaign creation, added multi-currency support, improved reporting retention, and created bulk edit improvements.
Simplified Campaign Creation helps inexperienced marketers, people from other industries, and advertisers with limited time, to create campaigns in three simple steps. Advertisers first create the copy and media, then input the audience factors to target, and finally set up payment! For marketers who are promoting products in several countries and therefore use other currencies, Reddit is now supporting five new currencies along with the USD. Reporting retention updates will allow marketers to see past data to ensure campaigns are improving over time and optimizations are working. Lastly, bulk edit improvements allows marketers to make several edits at a time instead of individually, and including editing ads from multiple campaigns at once.
Overall, Reddit can give you a multitude of opportunities to find niche audiences and make your company and clients shine. These six updates, make it easier than ever before for users in all industries to successfully market to Redditors.
